"...You can leave Africa, but Africa never leaves you!"

November 1985 and our small plane touched down at Gaborone Airport in Botswana, we had arrived in country to begin our next posting.

For the previous nine years we had travelled the world as expatriates living in far flung corners of the globe. However, little did we know when we stepped off that plane into the heat of the African Summer afternoon that this would be the start of a 20 year love affair with Africa and its wild places?

For the previous two years we had lived in the Portuguese colony of Macau in South East Asia. That had been exciting and interesting but a little claustrophobic. Now we were ready to get back to a less congested and frenetic way of life.

Pete was working as a consultant to the Botswana Telecoms Corp on the building of their new digital Telecoms system. It was supposed to be for the duration of the project, less than a year, in the end we stayed for almost three until the company moved us to Fiji.

Since that period we have returned to Africa many times visiting various countries from RSA to Zaire. Sometimes as members of an overland expedition, other times as pampered guests in exclusive bush camps however our favourites trips where always when we hired our own vehicle and did our own thing.

Now 20 years on we are returning to Africa to fulfil our dream to be able to travel with our own vehicle in our own time and go wherever the fancy takes us

There is an old saying "...You can leave Africa but Africa never leaves you". So come with us and hopefully we will be able to convey in words and pictures just some of the magic which brings us back to this fantastic continent again and again.
